About Sweet Pickles

My name is Katrina Balvance, I've been running Sweet Pickles, LLC since August 26th, 2009.  I'm a cloth-diapering mom of two who works part time as an audiologist. I chose cloth after seeing some products at a baby-fair, and the guilt of all the trash was getting to me! My seventh-grade earth science teacher really made an impact on me, and I'm glad to have found a way to reduce waste!  Prior to purchasing Sweet Pickles, I was a customer myself, and I understand how mind-boggling all the cloth choices can be!

I love telling everyone how easy it is to use cloth!  I think of it as my way to help our environment, spread the word about cloth diapering and make it easy for families!

Previously, Sweet Pickles LLC was run by a stay at home mom (also high school teacher) who got excited about cloth diapers when she had her little one. Her daughter has been cloth diapered from birth.  Her environmental consciousness has been shaped by her travels in India and Japan. "I talked to my mother recently and she said that she cloth diapered me and my brother using diaper pins and plastic pants. She started with a diaper service, since they didn't have a dryer which were very expensive and she "couldn't imagine hanging up all those diapers". After they got a dryer she washed her own diapers.  She related how they tried paper diapers , which had just come out, when they went on a trip.  Well, now 90% of Americans use paper diapers and they fill up our landfills or show up on the beach. I hope to change that. You will be surprised to learn that cloth diapers have change since the sixties and are much easier and cuter too."
